Math
Continue working on memorizing multiplication/division facts until mastered. Start each day with a Facts Practice warm-up of either multiplication or division.

Objectives:

1. Review equivalent fractions. 

2. Use multiplication and division to generate equivalent fractions.

3. Compare fractions by finding common denominators or numerators.

4. Express fractions greater than 1 as improper fractions and mixed numbers.


Spelling
Objective: Spell common holidays and words with /uff/ spelled ough.

Reading  

We are continuing Misty of Chincoteague this week.

Review each chapter's vocabulary prior to reading and complete the assigned questions in your journal.

Objectives: 

1. Increase reading comprehension and fluency.

2. Learn new vocabulary

3. Find examples of conflict in Misty of Chincoteague.

4. Summarize a passage through oral and written narration.

Writing

Objectives:

1. Create a KWO of a 3-paragraph myth that follows the story sequence chart (characters/setting, conflict/problem, climax/resolution)
2. Write the first paragraph RD
3. Incorporate dress-ups (ly, who/which, strong verb, and because clause) and vocabulary words 

Grammar

Objectives:
1. Recognize and use helping verbs in sentences.
2. Know that "not" is usually an adverb.

History  

Objectives: 
1. Identify problems Ireland faced in the mid-1800s.
2. Know that the Boer War was fought between Great Britain and Afrikaners and the British won.

Tuesday: Answer the following questions in your journal. Write your answers in complete sentences with proper capitalization and punctuation.
1. Why had the Irish not gotten along with the English for so many years?
2. What were the Corn Laws?
3. What was the Home Rule Bill?
4. What was the blight? Why did it affect Ireland so greatly?

Science
1. Identify characteristics of grasshoppers, crickets, and katydids
2. Continue to collect, study, and identify Texas insects.

Memory Work:  Please spend 15 minutes per day working on the following memory work.
Poetry:  Our second quarter poem is "Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening".  Additional copies here.
Geography:  We will have our test over Southern Europe this week. The song and map can be found here on the main blog curricula/geography page. Students will be responsible for labeling countries on a map. A word bank is provided.
