While we typically push complete sentences, correct grammar and spelling in their other journal assignments, Bible journal entries can be more relaxed and free flowing. We want them to be reflective and not worry about getting things "right." Since reflection of God's word is a very personal experience, there really is no "right" way to do the Bible journal entry. Students will have the option to share entries during Bible time classroom discussions.

Parents,

I have truly enjoyed getting to know each student better this week. They have been consistently considerate, respectful, engaged, and diligent! They enjoyed spending the bulk of our Math time with manipulatives to really understand our base ten number system and this video showing them the amazing way God has used the Fibonocci number sequence in planning the structure of of many of his creations! We are learning that Math is a language filled with patterns.

Math

Begin math with a 5 minute warm-up of addition or subtraction practice using Facts Practice A or B  When your child can complete FP-A correctly in 5 min, move on to FP-B (subtraction).

You may also want to use flashcards or games as needed for practicing math facts.

Objectives:

1. Round a 6-digit number to the nearest hundred-thousand, ten thousand, or thousand.

2. Use place value concepts in mental math computations.

Reading

Writing

2. Retell fable in own words using KWO

3. Write a 1-paragraph fable about "The Trumpeter Taken Prisoner"

Grammar

Objectives: 

1. Identify nouns and action verbs in a sentence.

2. Know the 5 parts of a complete sentence: subject, verb, capital letter, end mark, makes sense

3. Know and identify the four kinds of sentences: declarative, imperative, interrogative, exclamatory

4. Know that adverbs modify a verb, adjective, or another adverb and answer How, When, or Where?

5. Know that adjectives modify nouns and answer Which one? What kind? or How many?

History

Objectives:  

1. Know the measures Japan took to keep out Western Influence until Matthew Perry gained access.

2. Identify some differences between West and East during the 1850's.

3. Know that Florence Nightingale was a nurse during the Crimean War and introduced many new practices to the nursing field.

Science

Objectives:

1. Identify several benefits of insects.

2. Identify characteristics of insects.

3. Identify the parts of an insect.

Memory Work:  Please spend 15 minutes per day working on the following memory work.

• Poetry: Our first quarter poem is "The Father's Vineyard".  A copy was placed in your student's binder on Monday. 
• Practice this with a family member, pet, or stuffed animal 😊as an audience, focusing on the public speaking skills listed in IEW on pg. 9.  Additional copies here.

• Geography:  We will continue to study the Continents & Oceans. The song and map can be found here on the main blog curricula/geography page. Students will be responsible for labeling continents and oceans on a map.
• Science: Classification of Life: Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species
