Many of the children voted to sing their song/poem, "In Christ Alone," for a morning assembly since they did such a great job of memorizing it. Mrs. Couchman is excited about this and has said they can lead the worship song on Monday, March 30, 8:45 a.m. Please mark your calendars.

During Science this week, comparing themselves to the largest bird, the Wandering Albatross, gave us an excuse to have fun with measurement:

Our virtue this month is Hope. Hope is the placing of our trust in Christ’s promises and relying not on our own strength but on the help of the grace of the Holy Spirit.


Math
Please continue to complete two Math Fact worksheets per week. Set the timer for 5 min and circle the last problem your child completes. Then complete the page, correct, and return to school for recording.

Objectives:

1. Assess adding and subtracting decimals.

2. Multiply tenths by a one-digit whole number.

3. Multiply hundredths by a one-digit number

4. Review previously learned skills


Spelling

Objectives: Spell words with ar in an unaccented syllable.


Reading  

Please bring your book to class each day.

Grammar

Objectives:

1. Introduce linking verbs, predicate nouns, and predicate adjectives.

2. Review rules for the plurals of nouns with different endings Identify similes and metaphors.

Writing 

Objectives:

1. Create one paragraph from 2 sources of information including: Central Fact, Details, and Clincher for each paragraph.
2. Use stylistic techniques of incorporating 6 dress-ups into each paragraph.
3. Edit your written work.

History 

Objectives:

1. Identify key History dates memorized for the 3rd quarter and listed below
2. Know that the Korean War resulted in the country being divided into Communist North Korea and democratic South Korea.
3. Identify facts about Korean culture.
4. Learn about the challenges faced by North Koreans.
5. Know that Chairman Mao brought Communism to China in 1949.

Science
Objectives:
1. Look at the migration habits of various species of birds.
2. Identify key features of birds and feathers.

Memory Work:  Please spend 15 minutes per day working on the following memory work.

Poetry:  We will sing/recite our third quarter poem, "In Christ Alone, " at Assembly on March 30.  These lyrics are set to music and you can find numerous renditions online. Here is one. In Christ Alone. Additional copies here.

Geography:  We are beginning our study of the former USSR.  The song and map can be found here on the main blog curricula/geography page. Students will be responsible for labeling countries on a map. A word bank is provided.

Sheppard's software practice game: North & Central Asia and Western Asia

History: We are memorizing the US Presidents. There are several YouTube video songs to help

with this. Here are two: US Presidents: Washington to Trump and an older version, US Presidents to "America" For assessment, students will write or sing all the presidents' first and last names. Due 5/12
